Mya Joy's TBI
Memo's of a Mommy...
When Mya Joy began her therapy and rehabilitation I felt so badly for the other kids that were in wheelchairs and had obvious injuries and disabilities.
It was not until the weekend before we were to be released from the hospital that all the children were on the playground for a therapy session and asked to roll a ball down a small slide. All the parents, who at this point had become as close as family, were watching the children move slowly and steadily roll the ball down the slide with ease and care.
The tranquility of the moment was shattered when Mya Joy had no control over her body and she did not want to let go of the ball and followed it down the slide head first sending all the parents and therapists into a panic! Once things had settled and Mya Joy was again safe on stable ground another mother mentioned to me that she was the lucky one because her child could see their disability which made understanding their limitations so much easier.
Mya Joy's skull fracture is similar to an egg that has a crack in it. The shell itself is able to keep egg contained however the slightest of bumps sends egg all over the place. If Mya Joy were to fall or sustain even the slightest of bumps the same could happen.
We have to protect Mya Joy from EVERYTHING!
Mya Joy has the physical ability to do everything which makes it so difficult for her to understand why she can't just be a kid.
Mya Joy's TBI has caused.....
There are many more changes Mya has gone through and our family has decided to keep that private for Mya Joy as she is getting older.
