Light of Joy Awareness is filing the 1023 application to become Non-Profit in 2011. The Light of Joy Awareness is on a mission to Educate and Advocate. NATIONAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN. LOJA will prevent head injuries! Light of Joy Awareness will support the mission for a better future for children who survive Brain Injuries.

Our family lives in a small community in Eastern North Carolina.  Never in a million years would we have ever thought that our lives would be so effected by a hair accessory... Yes a HAIR ACCESSORY!

Falling second only to Mya Joy's medical treatment and rehabilitation our mission is to educate, advocate and simply bring awareness to the fact that ill designed hair accessories CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE!

If we had not used that cute, pink, cube-shaped pony-tail holder...

Our "New" Reality...

Today Traumatic Brain Injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among children and young adults in the United States. EVERY 23 seconds someone in the U.S. sustains a TBI. Each year more people are diagnosed with a TBI than multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, HIV/AIDS and breast cancer combined.

The Light of Joy Awareness project was created on April 8th, 2010. We decided to begin this project for two reasons. First, to warn and educate parents that something as innocent as a hair accessory cold cause so much damage, but even more importantly to bring awareness to TBI and the warning signs that follow. At no time did Mya Joy cry or complain of pain nor become sick after her fall. If it had not been for intuition and a doctors deciding at the LAST moment before stitching up the small cut, the untreated TBI could have had a CATASTROPHIC outcome.
